Diets leave room to drop them as well, which causes the former dieter to gain back the weight lost plus more. The way to keep up a healthy diet is by eating normally. Not normal by current American standards, but science and physician recommended eating plans. This includes your favorite treats, carbs, and steak — the secret is moderation. More plants, less red meat, less sugar, less sodium, and more whole grains. You might be surprised how quickly you feel better just by substituting french fries and cookies with more fibrous fruits and vegetables.


Believe it or not, the more you exercise, the better you feel. If you have medical issues that make it difficult to exercise like depression, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, or obesity, exercise will help you all the more. You don’t even have to leave your house! You can get a good 30 minutes of working out just by doing simple things like vacuuming the house, grocery shopping, doing laundry, or mowing the lawn. If you have a kid in sports, watching them while walking around the field. Marathoning a TV show? Do some crunches during commercials, stretch, jog in place, do some yoga poses, or cycle on an inexpensive pedaling machine while you watch. This will keep you from absent-mindedly snacking as well.

Quit Bad Habits

Make 2018 the year you finally quit smoking! There are plenty of options to help including, patches, lozenges, gum, and more. You can use those for the rest of your life if you need to. Just make sure you don’t turn towards candy during any cravings or you’ll be replacing one addiction for another. Make an effort to cut back your drinking — soda or alcohol.
